India has had a long-lasting love affair with cannabis. So much that marijuana is sold as ‘bhang’ in government shops in many parts of India. Used both recreationally and medicinally, many Indians use marijuana even for religious purposes. When the world wants to get high, they visit India – a land where cannabis grows wild and free in the mountainous regions of the Himalayas. Cannabis Indica gets its name from India due to the country’s association with marijuana. Strains from India traveled to Europe through servants, and many of the landrace strains that are almost extinct today were cultivated in India. Whether it’s the super potent Idukki Gold or the Jamaican landrace strains introduced in the 1840s, India boasts of some of the highest strains ever known to man. Indian cannabis seeds can be found in both North and South India. While South Indian strains are usually sativa-dominant, North Indian strains lean a little towards indica. Cannabis plants grow in abandon in the Himalayan regions, but the country is most famous for its Hash – Malana Cream – found in a little village at the base of the snowy mountains. The strains growing in India can be used to extract concentrates of the highest quality. Farmers make hash out of living plants using nothing but their bare hands. Concentrates can be used for both medicinal and recreational purposes, but medicinal users will certainly appreciate the quick relief due to the high potency. In fact, the effects of the strains are so tremendously different that you’ll have a hard time going back to your regular strains after trying them! Like other sativa strains, the effects start with an intense cerebral buzz where you can almost feel neurons firing with activity. It’s like a quick shot of caffeine sans the jittery feeling. A deep puff of some of these Indian cannabis plants can keep you going for a long, long time. Perfect to be toked even before you touch your breakfast, these strains keep you alert with great focus. Some of the newly introduced strains have recorded about 22 percent , so remember that a little goes a long way.
